What follows is a flawlessly constructed bureaucratic obstacle course delivered with the solemnity of a man who has kept every receipt and intends to be believed.

The opening is almost eerily calm: solo piano and low strings, the bass-baritone lead narrating in a parlando dry enough to sand furniture. The pacing is deliberate because the outrage hasn't arrived yet — this is still the part where everything is technically fine. The Scottsdale, Arizona P.O. Box enters as a throwaway detail delivered with the gravity of a legal deposition. Certified mail. Green-and-white receipt. They did not receive it.

Act II is where the pit orchestra fills in like water in a basement. A tenor ensemble materializes to explain, in cheerful patter-song counterpoint, the precise availability window of Trent — Member Experience Coordinator, never manager, always smiling. A soprano cuts through with the hold music as a character all her own: saccharine, inexhaustible, unmoved. The chorus hook ("Thirty days written notice / thirty days certified mail") loops back each time a new charge posts, and each reprise sinks a half-step further down as the chromatic descent motif does its quiet damage. The laminated card lands like a punchline from a nightmare.

By Act III the calendar has become the antagonist. April. May. June. July. The bridge enumerates each month with the steady accumulation of a man building a case he knows no one will hear. Then the key snaps to major and the SATB choir arrives for "It is NOVEMBER" — full brass, full percussion, the kind of fortissimo that means the gym has won and everyone knows it. The counterpoint in the finale stacks the procedural vocabulary ("Certified mail! P.O. Box! Scottsdale! Trent is SMILING!") into something that sounds less like consumer complaint and more like a civic tragedy. The final four-part harmony on "ONE. STAR." is the most expensive sentence anyone has ever written on Yelp. Then the single piano note — the same dry voice from the opening — plays once and goes quiet.
